Iran Built Missile Plants in Syria

He made the comments in an interview with a magazine titled “Uprising of Sejjils”, published to commemorate the 30th anniversary of initiation of Iran’s missile program.

The magazine, which derives its name from the indigenous missile “Sejjil”, contains information about the course of Iran’s progress in manufacturing different types of missiles over the past 30 years. It also pays special tribute to Brigadier General Hassan Tehrani-Moqaddam, known as the father of Iran's missile program, who was martyred in an incident while conducting reseach on a missile project on November 12, 2011.

Brigadier General Hassan Tehrani-Moqaddam (1959-2011), known as father of Iran’s missile program, is a highly revered commander, famous for his work of pure genius in the field of missile technology.

Sejjil is a ground-to-ground missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers, seen as Iran’s most advanced ballistic missile. With a 650-kg warhead, Sejjil runs on solid fuel and can be prepared for launch within minutes.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Brigadier General Hajizade said Syria was the country that first trained the Iranian forces to use missiles in the 1980s, but afterwards, the Islamic Republic made such a great headway that it managed to help the anti-Israeli resistance front, including Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Palestinian resistance groups, produce missiles.

Heaping praise on Tehrani-Moqaddam for his efforts to boost Iran’s missile capability, Hajizade said the deceased’s primary goal was to make a long-range missile capable of hitting Israel from inside Iran.

“Hassan (Tehrani-Moqaddam) believed that we must acquire missiles with such a range that enable us to threaten the Zionist regime (of Israel),” the commander said.
