Parliament Speaker Condemns Terrorist Attack in Spain"These events are the result of the support of some wealthy and powerful countries of the terrorist and extremist groups that I hope their conscience would finally wake up so that they might give up their peremptory supports," Larijani said in his message.

The Iranian parliament speaker sympathized with his Spanish counterparts over the tragic terrorist attack in Barcelona.

Larijani's message was addressed to President of the Congress of Deputies Ana María Pastor Julián and President of the Senate of Spain Pío García-Escudero Márquez.

The Iranian parliament speaker reiterated that the terrorist attack indicated the spread of insecurity, violence and terrorism in today's world, which makes clear the need for a global consensus to tackle the issue decisively.

Larijani expressed his condolence to the Spanish government, nation and the bereaved families of the victims over the bitter incident, and hoped for the establishment of peace and security as well as full eradication of terrorists to put an end to such terrorist attacks.

At least 13 people were killed and 100 injured on Thursday when a driver deliberately slammed a van into crowds on Barcelona's most popular street in what police confirmed was a terrorist attack. Hours later, police said they had shot dead "four suspected terrorists" and left another injured in Cambrils, a city south of Barcelona.

In relevant remarks on Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi condemned the terrorist attack in Barcelona.

"We condemn terrorist attacks across the globe as no country, even the obvious and secret supporters of terrorists, is immune to terrorist threats, is immune to terrorism’s threats," Qassemi said.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman sympathized with bereaved families of the victims of the terrorist attack, the Spanish government and nation on the sad and tragic incident.

Qassemi said that global problems should be settled using international solutions, and called for a global unity against terrorism.

"All peacekeeping countries should responsibly and credibly form a global alliance against violence, insecurity and terrorism," the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said.
