Official Urges Iran, Australia Cooperation against TerrorismIran and Australia can work together on Middle East issues, in combatting terrorism, and in establishing stability and security, Head of the Founding Council and Board of Trustees of the Islamic Azad University Ali Akbar Velayati, also an ex-foreign minister, said on Tuesday.

He made the comments in a meeting in Tehran with Gareth Evans, a former foreign minister of Australia and the incumbent chancellor of the Australian National University (ANU).

Highlighting Iran’s role in regional and international developments, Velayati said all nations should exercise diplomacy to contribute to sustainable peace and security.

He also described countering all types of terrorism as a principled policy of the Islamic Republic.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s administration has time and again called for concerted action by all countries to tackle the cultural roots of terrorism.
