President Warns of Iran’s Response to Violation of JCPOA

"The Iranian nation proved within the framework of the JCPOA that… it always honors its commitments. Going back on the JCPOA would mean reneging on a government’s clear political promises, and would not amount to a glory for anybody,” President Rouhani said in a gathering of Iranian expatriates residing in the US, in New York on Sunday night.

He also underlined that Iran will never violate the JCPOA, the nuclear agreement with the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), but made it clear that the other side’s attempt to violate the rights of the Iranian nation will draw an appropriate response.

Describing the JCPOA as a multilateral agreement that has been endorsed by a United Nation Security Council resolution, President Rouhani said, "The JCPOA will last forever in the political history of our region and the world, either the current US administration would be happy or worried.”

He further highlighted the significant role that Iranian expatriates can play in development of the country, calling on the Iranians abroad to get involved in academic and economic interaction with the Iranian centers and make investment in homeland.

Earlier in the day, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei lambasted the US for violating the JCPOA, warning that any "wrong move” concerning the nuclear deal would draw reaction from Iran.

"The Iranian nation is standing firmly, and any wrong move by the hegemonic system concerning the JCPOA would receive the Islamic Republic’s reaction,” the Leader said in a military gathering in Tehran.

Iran and the Group 5+1 reached the 159-page nuclear agreement in July 2015 and started to implement it in January 2016.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.

The US has even imposed many fresh sanctions against Iran, in flagrant defiance of the JCPOA.
