Trump's Claims on Iran's Support for Terrorism Larijani's remarks came in reaction to President Trump's recent claims who described the JCPOA as "the worst and most one-sided transaction the US has ever entered into".

"This is the most ridiculous remark that Trump made at the UN. Are they truly blind to see that it is only Iran fighting against ISIL in Iraq and Syria? How can Iran be backing terrorists on the one hand, and fighting them on the other? How is this logical at all?,” Larijani said on Saturday.

The Iranian parliament speaker underlined that the Americans know it too that Trump’s accusation is absurd and only serves to manipulate the world’s public opinion, and said, "But they will not succeed, because Iran has chosen the right path and will advance on this path with full strength."

Larijani reiterated that President Trump’s anti-Iran remarks at the UN General Assembly were aimed at pleasing "certain reactionary states in the Middle East".

"The US president should be ashamed of all the schemes and plots he had hatched against Iran but had failed to achieve any results. Now he has begun a new game,” the Iranian parliament speaker added.

Larijani underlined that it was obvious that no one at the UN found Trump’s remarks acceptable, and said, "We need to realize the reason behind Trump’s words, which was to please the heads of certain reactionary states in the Middle East as he has plundered hundreds of billions of resources in Islamic countries."

The Iranian parliament speaker said that if Trump thinks he can win this game he is delusional, adding, "Because this is the same Iran which has withstood against lines of hostile countries for years."

The Trump administration has desperately sought a pretext to scrap or weaken the 2015 deal and get rid of the limits the deal imposes on the US ability to pursue more hostile policies against Iran.

However, Washington’s European allies seek to prevent the collapse of the deal and are stepping up efforts to convince Trump not to abandon the accord.

EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said on September 18 that the Iran deal belonged to the entire world, not just the United States.
