The epicenter of the new earthquake was an area near Barda, a city in the center of the Republic of Azerbaijan, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The closest Iranian city to the quake center was Parsabad, adjacent to the common border with Azerbaijan.
Speaking to Tasnim, Governor of Parsabad Akbar Samadi said Wednesday night’s earthquake caused damages to houses, mostly in rural areas, but no loss of life was reported.
The quake follows Sunday night’s massive temblor that hit Kermanshah, killing more than 470 people and injuring around 10,000 others.
According to President Hassan Rouhani, the earthquake has destroyed 11,000 rural houses and 4,500 urban dwellings in Kermanshah province.
