Pres. Rouhani urges closer trade ties with TurkeyIranian President Hassan Rouhani made the remark in a bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Wednesday on the sidelines of the tripartite summit of Iran, Russia and Turkey on Syrian settlement, while noting that the summit has a "key role in bolstering peace and sustainable stability in Syria and the whole region.”

The president referred to the development of Iran-Turkey banking cooperation, especially in the field of ​​trade with the national currency, and stressed the need to create a single window system and full-time operation of customs of the two countries.

Referring to the importance of continued cooperation and consultations between Iran, Russia and Turkey to resolve regional issues, particularly on the Syrian issue, Rouhani called for continued tripartite and international efforts to resolve the political crisis in Syria, adding "as of today, ISIL’s main bases in Syria and Iraq have collapsed, but we are still far from full eradication of terrorism from the region.”

"The meetings and consultations of senior military officials of Iran and Turkey have played an important role in developing relations between the two countries,” Rouhani said, while stressing the need for further joint efforts on settling issues related to Iraq and Yemen.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for his part, offered condolences on the devastating earthquake in Iranian western province of Kermanshah, adding "Turkey is resolved to cement relations with Iran in all fields of mutual interest.”

The Turkish president went on to add, "in order to reach the envisioned $30-billion level of trade volume between Iran and Turkey, we must attempt to develop preferential trade and the use of national currency in commercial transactions.”

Erdoğan further highlighted the importance of Iran and Turkey's consultations and joint efforts to resolve issues in the region, including Syria.
