IRGC Reveals Details of Repulsed Terrorist Attack in Southeastern IranThe statement said that almost 40 Jeish al-Adl terrorists attacked a checkpoint near Nahang river in Saravan in the Southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan around 16:20 local time on Sunday afternoon, using a combination of various offensive methods, including booby-traps, bomb-laden vehicles, suicide attackers and direct attack.

"During the clashes 4 terrorists were killed and a number of them were wounded and the remaining militants fled to the neighboring country," it said, adding that the numerous waves of offensive were waded off by the IRGC forces and the terrorists sustained heavy defeat and damage.

The preliminary reports about the attack said on Monday that the IRGC has dismantled a team of terrorists who intended to launch a suicide attack against a border checkpoint in Sistan and Balouchestan province.

"Last night, members of the terrorist grouplets and armed outlaws wanted to launch a suicide attack on one of the IRGC Ground Force's border checkpoints in Saravan region of Sistan and Balouchestan province, using a vehicle carrying ammunition and explosives, but they failed due to the vigilance and timely reaction of the security forces," Public Relations Department of the IRGC Ground Force's Quds base announced in a statement on Monday.

It added that two terrorists were killed, noting that one of the outlaws who had failed to approach the border checkpoint detonated his explosive vest and died on the scene.

The statement said that two of the Basiji (volunteer) forces stationed in the checkpoint were also wounded in clashes with the terrorists who were later treated.

Jeish al-Adl is a terrorist group that has carried out several attacks against the Iranian security forces in the past. The group's main base is in the bordering areas between Iran and Pakistan. The Iranian officials have several times criticized Islamabad for lax security measures at the joint borders.

Four Iranian border guards were killed in July 2016 in the bordering region with Pakistan. Eight Iranian border guards were killed in clashes with Jeish al-Adl in 2015. Two years earlier, the terrorist group killed 14 border guards in an attack.
