Iraq Launches Border Cleansing OperationTEHRAN (DEFAPRESS)-A massive military operation aimed to cleanse major parts of Iraq would stretch to the areas bordering Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, Gen Yahya Rasool, spokesman for Iraq’s Joint Operations Command, was quoted as saying by Elnashra news website.

The operation covers areas from Sinjar region in the western parts of the northern province of Nineveh –near Syria’s border- to the northern areas of Baghdad, the commander noted.

He also explained that three military commands have been tasked with ensuring security in the provinces of Salahadin, Al Anbar and Nineveh.

In mid-November, Iraqi forces captured the border town of Rawa, the last remaining town under Daesh control, marking the collapse of the terror group’s self-proclaimed caliphate in Iraq.

Since then, Iraqi military units and popular forces have been hunting for remaining armed members of the terrorist group in different parts of the country.
