Iran jails 16 women for joining Daesh

Tehran’s prosecutor announced that 16 women who joined Daesh terrorist group in Syria have been sentenced to jail.

Iran jails 16 women for joining DaeshTehran (Defapress) – “The women were also ordered to pay back any money that they had received from the terrorist group,” Tehran’s prosecutor Abbas Ja’afari Dolatabadi said.

“These women had gone to Syria to join Daesh and received terrorist training and carried out some operation there. They were arrested upon their return to Iran from Syria,” he added.

Separately, a Tehran court on Sunday held the fifth hearing in the trial of eight men suspected in the killing of 18 people at the parliament and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s mausoleum last year - the first deadly attack claimed by Islamic State in Tehran.

Iran has said that the five gunmen and suicide bombers who were killed in the attacks had fought in the militants’ strongholds in Syria and Iraq.
