Syria in Last 24 Hours: Army Lays Full Siege on ISIL Militants Trapped in Remaining Positions in Southern Damascus

The ISIL's positions in Southern Damascus came under the Syrian Army troops' continued attacks on Sunday, and the government troops laid siege on the terrorists in their last strongholds in Hajar al-Aswad region.

"The ISIL has come under siege in an area as large as 1sq/km North of Hajar al-Aswad," the field sources said, adding that the terrorist front in Hajar al-Aswad has collapsed and only several small groups of militants are in the besieged region.

Meantime, the Syrian army continued its military advances in other parts of Syria over the past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army's operations in provinces across Syria.

Damascus

The Syrian Army troops continued to march on ISIL positions in Southern Damascus on Sunday, and laid siege on the terrorists in their last strongholds in Hajar al-Aswad region.

The army men continued their operation North of Hajar al-Aswad, pushing ISIL terrorists towards a small area of land Northwest of Hajar al-Aswad.

Local sources said that the ISIL has come under siege in an area as large as 1sq/km North of Hajar al-Aswad, adding that the terrorist front in Hajar al-Aswad has collapsed and only several small groups of militants are in the besieged region.

The sources further said that the army is now in operation to hunt the remaining terrorists.

Earlier reports said that the army men engaged in tough battles against ISIL North of Hajar al-Aswad and Southern Yarmouk Camp, driving terrorists out of more areas.

In the meantime, a field source reported that fierce clashes are underway between the army soldiers and terrorists in al-Tazamon neighborhood, near Yarmouk Camp and in a region between Hajar al-Aswad and Yarmouk Camp, adding that almost seventy percent of Yarmouk Camp has come under the army's control.

Meanwhile, the army's artillery and missile units and aircraft pounded the remaining positions of the terrorists in Hajar al-Aswad, Yarmouk Camp and al-Tazamon neighborhood.

Hama

The Syrian and Russian warplanes carried out a fresh round of combat flights over terrorist-held regions in Northern Hama on Sunday, destroying militants' positions.

The fighter jets bombed heavily terrorists' positions and movements in al-Latamina and Kafr Zita regions in Northern Hama, destroying a number of vehicles and a large volume of military equipment.

A number of terrorists were killed or wounded in the raid too.

Also, the Syrian Army's artillery and missile units opened heavy fire at terrorists' strongholds in Northern Hama, imposing major losses on the militants.

Aleppo

The Syrian Army's artillery and missile units pounded terrorists' positions and movements in Northwestern Aleppo on Sunday after the latter fired a number of mortar shells at residential areas in Aleppo city.

Terrorists, deployed in Northern Aleppo, launched mortar attacks on a local bazaar in al-Nile Streets in the Northwestern countryside of Aleppo city.

In response, the army's artillery and missile units pounded terrorists' strongholds and movements in Kafr Hamra region and its surroundings in the Northern countryside of Aleppo.

Also, local sources reported that fierce clashes are underway between the army men and terrorists in a region near al-Zahra district which had earlier come under attack by the militants' mortar fire.

The sources further said that a large number of terrorists were killed or wounded and their military equipment was destroyed in the attacks.

Sweida

The Syrian Army troops, tipped-off by intelligence forces, targeted a bomb-laden vehicle of the terrorists and managed to preempt their offensive in the Southern province of Sweida.

The army soldiers carried out a preemptive operation in Eastern Sweida after the intelligence forces informed them of the movements of a group of terrorists.

The army units further targeted and destroyed a bomb-laden suicide vehicle of the terrorists that was moving towards the government forces' al-Mosamiyeh checkpoint at Sweida-Damascus highway.

The vehicle was damaged and all the terrorists inside were killed in the attack.

Idlib

A number of Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) militants were killed in assassination operations by unknown attackers in Idlib provinces on Sunday.

Unknown assailants stormed two bases of Tahrir al-Sham near the town of Idlib and in al-Za'einiyeh region in the town of Jisr al-Shughour, killing at least seven Tahrir gunmen and wounding several more.

In the meantime, Tahrir's Al-Ram checkpoint on a road that connects Idlib city to the town of Ma'arat Mesrin in the Northern part of Idlib province was attacked by unknown attackers, leaving five gunmen dead and several more wounded.

In response, Tahrir al-Sham's security forces executed four civilians in Idlib city on charges of carrying out assassination operation against the group.

Local sources reported that terrorists in Idlib are fraught with fear after the start of a fresh wave of assassination operations and spread of insecurity in the region.
