Libyan Military on Verge of Victory in Derna

TEHRAN (Defapress)- “The armed forces took control of 75 percent of Derna … The military continues to pursue the remnants of terrorist groups in the city,” the operational command said in a statement, the AMN reported.

Commander of the Libyan National Army General Khalifa Haftar announced in early May the launch of an operation to liberate Derna from the terrorists inside of the city.

According to media reports, the Libyan National Army is being heavily supported by their air force.

Derna is located 1,000 km East of Tripoli. The city was under the control of the Shura Council of the Mujahideen of Derna, which includes groups associated with Al-Qaeda. Prior to that, the ISIL was in control of the city.

The city of Derna is considered the last stronghold of terrorists in the Eastern part of the country.
