Pres. Rouhani calls for bolstering Iran-Pakistan ties

In a telephone conversation with Pakistan's Imran Khan, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that the bilateral ties should increase between Tehran and Islamabad.

Pres. Rouhani calls for bolstering Iran-Pakistan tiesTEHRAN (Defapress) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for Iran-Pakistan expansion of ties in all areas, in a telephone conversation with Pakistan's Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday.

During the phone call, the Iranian top official extended congratulations on Imran Khan’s victory in the recent election in Pakistan.

“I hope that we witness a closer and more intimate ties between the two friendly and brotherly countries of Iran and Pakistan in the new era,” said President Rouhani.

“We are expecting significant rise in economic and commercial relations between Iran and Pakistan,” said Rouhani referring to latest remarks made by the Chairman of Pakistan's Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Party on the necessity of bolstering economic relations between Iran and Pakistan.

President Rouhani also invited Imran Khan to take part in the upcoming Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) in October. The next round of ACD which is expected to be held on October 13-15 in Tehran with participation of the heads of member states.

The Pakistan politician, in this phone dialogue, thanked President Rouhani for offering congratulations and asserted that he and his party are determined to register a landmark growth in bilateral relations between Tehran and Islamabad.

He accepted President Rouhani’s invitation and reassured that he will visit Tehran to attend the event.

Imran Khan, a former cricket legend, declared victory on July 25 in a divisive general election in Pakistan, and will soon step up as Pakistani prime minister after the formation of the new parliament.
