In reaction, Washington announced it was waiting for him to return to answer questions regarding Khashoggi's case.

In case it is proven the prince has been an accomplice to the crime, chances are he will be replaced in the coming days.

The daily quoted some Western and Saudi sources which declined to be named as saying the West has now suspected the role of the Saudi ambassador in murdering Jamal Khashoggi since he was privy to his brother's intention to settle a score with the dissident journalist.

Hence he knowingly made Khashoggi refer to Saudi consulate in Istanbul while he could easily get the documents he needed in Washington.

The 59-year-old Saudi veteran writer and journalist who resided in Washington entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October second to collect paperwork for his forthcoming marriage, but ended up being murdered by senior security officials close to the crown prince.
