Most Americans Disapprove of Trump’s Job as PresidentOverall, 28 percent of Americans said the economy will get better in the next year, while 33 percent predict it will get worse, the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll showed.

A majority of Americans also say Trump has been untruthful about the investigation into Russia’s alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election campaign, and half say the probe has given them doubts about Trump’s presidency.

“For the first time in Trump’s presidency, his safety net of a robust economy shows signs of unraveling,” Fred Yang, a Democratic pollster with Hart Research Associates, stated.

The risk of a US recession in the next two years has risen to 40 percent, according to a Reuters poll released on Thursday.

The poll of over 100 economists taken December 6-13 showed the US economy will slow in the coming quarters with annualized gross domestic product growth easing to 1.8 percent by mid-2020, about half the latest reported rate of 3.5 percent.

Trump’s job approval rating in the NBC/WSJ poll stands at 43 percent, while 54 percent disapprove of his job. Just before the midterms, it was 46 percent approve and 52 percent disapprove among registered voters.

The poll, taken a month after November’s midterm congressional elections, also shows more Americans want Democratic Party lawmakers in Congress to take the lead in setting policy for the US.

Only one in 10 said Trump took the message from the midterm elections that voters wanted a change, and that he’s making the necessary adjustments.
