Iran's Borders with Neighbors Need No Walling

The borders of Iran with its neighbors are boundaries based on friendship, peace and understanding, and like certain countries there is no need for walling and border obstruction, General Rezayee said, addressing a joint meeting of the border guard commanders of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan in Iran's Northwestern province of Ardabil on Wednesday.

"We have no hostility and opposition to our neighbors, which needs walling. The borders of Iran, specially with the Republic of Azerbaijan, are the borders of friendship, empathy and understanding,” he added.

General Rezayee also said that in order to deepen the brotherly relations and ties between the people of the two countries, Iranian New Year's celebration will be held jointly with the presence of the border guards, tribesmen, officials of Iran and Azerbaijan at the zero point of the border.

Iran and Azerbaijan reached an agreement last month to expand and strengthen joint efforts on border cooperation along the 432 kilometers of the shared border between the two neighboring countries.

Top Iranian and Azeri border guard commanders signed a cooperation document in the field of border security.

General Rezayee and Chief of State Border Service of Azerbaijan Republic Colonel General Elchin Isa oglu Guliyev signed the cooperation document.

According the cooperation document, the two countries will boost exchange of information and also elevate cooperation in fighting drug trafficking along the borders.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 11th meeting of border guard commanders of Iran and Azerbaijan, held in Baku.
