Iran Expediency Council Chief:

US to Gain Nothing from Blacklisting IRGC

TEHRAN (defapress) – Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani slammed the US’ recent move to label the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist group”, stressing that Washington stands to get nothing from such an “irrational and foolish” measure.

US to Gain Nothing from Blacklisting IRGCSpeaking Thursday in the first meeting of the Expediency Council in the new Iranian year (started on March 21), Ayatollah Larijani underlined that the Iranian people and institutions all support the IRGC and that the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the US in particular, are not going to gain anything by making such moves.

“This, of course, is not the first worthless measure taken by the US rulers,” he said, referring to the Trump administration’s decisions to move the US embassy to Jerusalem al-Quds last year and recognize Israel’s claim to Syria’s Golan Heights earlier this year as other examples.

“… such moves show that the Americans have failed to achieve what they expected from leaving the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action),” he said, adding that the US sought to see the collapse of Iran’s economy as a result of its withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and re-imposition of sanctions on the country and make the Iranian nation and the Islamic Establishment surrender to it.

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Washington is designating the IRGC a foreign “terrorist organization”, marking the first time the US has formally labeled another country's military a terrorist group.

Responding to the move, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council immediately declared the US as a state sponsor of terrorism and US forces in the region terrorists.

The SNSC said it has put CENTCOM on its terror list as a “reciprocal measure” against the US “illegal and unwise” move.
