Iran's President Emphasizes Closer Ties with Chile

“Iran and Chile as developing countries share common goals regarding international issues and can promote cooperation in the international community through further consultations,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Chile’s new accredited ambassador to Tehran, Christian Boros, on Tuesday.

He praised Latin American countries’ role in the international arena and said the Islamic Republic has always sought to establish close relations with these nations, including Chile.

“The conditions prevailing the international system require that all countries cooperate with each other to resolve economic and security issues,” the Iranian president noted.

He also welcomed Chile’s plan to set up an embassy in Tehran and said Tehran and Santiago are willing to expand political, economic and scientific relations.

Boros, for his part, voiced his country’s determination to strengthen bilateral relations and said he would try his hardest to promote Tehran-Santiago cooperation in diverse areas.

He also emphasized that the Chilean president is seeking to establish stronger ties with the Islamic Republic in the future.

During the meeting, the Chilean diplomat submitted his credentials to the Iranian president.

The promotion of all-out cooperation with Latin American countries has been among the top priorities of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy over the past few years.
