UN Hails Iran’s Role in War on TerrorThe United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert had a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi on Wednesday.

In the meeting, held at Iran’s Embassy in Baghdad, the UN official lauded Iran’s role in the fight against terrorism.

For his part, Masjedi reaffirmed Iran’s support for the territorial integrity and stability of Iraq.

The Iranian ambassador also deplored the US for its negative role, bullying policies, constant threats and acts of assassination, stressing that the Islamic Republic will fend off the US threats.

On January 3, the US assassinated top Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi (PMU), and a number of their entourage in an airstrike near Baghdad International Airport.

A few days later, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) carried out a missile attack on the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in retaliation.

The Pentagon has said that 50 US soldiers are diagnosed with traumatic brain injury after the Iranian missile attack, 16 more than the military had previously announced.
