Recent research rejected Israel's assertions regarding the hunger crisis in Gaza

TEHRAN (Defapress) - Refugees International (RI), an advocacy organization, reported that its investigation in the Gaza Strip revealed significant evidence of a severe hunger crisis, along with signs of famine-like conditions in the northern region of the enclave during the first half of 2024.

These findings challenge the assertions made by the Israeli government, which claimed that earlier warnings of famine were exaggerated. RI noted that the fluctuations in hunger levels are closely associated with Israel's restrictions and adjustments regarding aid access. T

he organization stated that international pressure on Israel had temporarily averted a potential widespread famine in Gaza in April. However, RI cautioned that this improvement was fleeting, as conditions have significantly worsened following the Rafah offensive in May.

The organization emphasized that without a substantial and lasting change in aid access, civilian protection, and humanitarian security, there is a serious risk of a resurgence of famine conditions.
