All but One Iranian Ministerial Picks Win Vote of Confidence

TEHRAN (defapress) – The final round of the Iranian parliament’s sessions to vet President Hassan Rouhani’s proposed ministers ended on Sunday as all the nominees except one managed to win the votes of confidence from lawmakers.

All but One Iranian Ministerial Picks Win Vote of ConfidenceFollowing several days of intensive parliamentary sessions held to discuss the credentials and backgrounds of the proposed ministers, the lawmakers held a ballot on Sunday and voted for all the ministerial nominees except one.

The nominee for the post of Minister of Energy Habibollah Bitaraf failed to win vote of confidence after 133 lawmakers from a total number of 288 opposed him.

President Rouhani had submitted the list of his ministers to the Parliament on August 8, four days after his swearing-in ceremony.

The president took the oath of office on August 5. He had two weeks to submit his new cabinet to the parliament but drew up the shortlist in only four days.
