Iran, Azerbaijan to Ink 10 Cooperation Pacts during Rouhani's Visit Next Week

Tehran and Baku are set to boost mutual cooperation in different areas during an upcoming visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Azerbaijan in coming days by signing nearly a dozen cooperation pacts, Iran's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi announced on Saturday.

“It is planned, as part of my visit, to discuss the documents to be signed during the president’s visit," Vaezi said in Baku today.

He said that a two-day visit of President Rouhani to Azerbaijan will kick off on November 12.

"These documents are mainly aimed at developing cooperation between the two countries in power imports from Azerbaijan, facilitated customs procedures, transportation, power industry, tourism, trade, insurance and economy sectors,” the Iranian communications and information technology minister added.

In September, Vaezi and Azeri Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev explored new avenues for the further development of ties in different sectors.

"Now, the volume of Iran-Azerbaijan trade exchanges has reached $500mln. The amount will increase several folds with the further expansion of bilateral ties," Vaezi said in a meeting with the Azeri minister in Tehran at the time.

Mustafayev, for his part, said the two countries are after improving mutual cooperation in all fields, especially in diplomatic areas.

He further noted that the team comprising 23 individuals was trying to mature mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Tehran has in recent years focused seriously on development of ties with neighboring countries, including Republic of Azerbaijan which enjoys various commonalties with Iran in religious, historical and cultural fields.
