Iranian FM Asks Russia's Assistance to Resolve Persian Gulf Problems

TEHRAN (defapress)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif hailed Russia's influential role in the region, calling on Moscow to help the Persian Gulf littoral states to resolve problems through talks.

Iranian FM Asks Russia's Assistance to Resolve Persian Gulf ProblemsIn a twitter post on Monday after addressing the Valdai conference in the Russian capital city of Moscow, Zarif wrote, "(I was) delighted to address ValdaiClub: With Russia's sober strategic perspective and its growing influence in West Asia, it can play an instrumental role to help a paradigm shift in the Persian Gulf to one based on dialogue and inclusion."

Addressing the Valadai conference, Zarif had blasted the western countries for creating a chaotic situation in the Muslim countries, and underlined that the cooperation between Tehran and Moscow has resulted in restoration of peace and security in the region.

"Strategic partnership with the Russian Federation, which stems from our common principles, interests and concerns, has been an important contributor to regional situation (stability)," Zarif said.

"Our joint efforts to defeat Daesh (the ISIL) and the cooperation between Russia, Iran and Turkey to reduce hostilities and start the political process in Sochi represent the sound forward strategy," he added.
