Zarif: Arms Deals Intended to Stir Insecurity in Region, Pose Pressure on Iran“Through fostering trust between people and officials and synergy among servants of the nation and their commitment to do their responsibilities according to the law, we can nullify pressures by the imprudent hegemons that despite all the defeats and damages inflicted on them still seek to safeguard their useless and harmful hegemonic interests through selling arms and making West Asia insecure and putting maximum pressure on the great people of Iran,” Zarif wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday

“The vast ocean of affection expressed by the great and courageous people of Iran and their honorable representatives, along with considerate comments by my dear brother honorable Brigadier General Qassem Soleimani, the kind and strict letter of the respectable president and benevolence and paternal favor shown by the wise Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, have made me and my colleagues in the foreign ministry to double our efforts to protect the country's national interests and the rights of the great Iranian people,” Zarif wrote in an Instagram post.

“This unity and solidarity has been the secret behind the victories and progress of our great nation in the past 40 years while it has been the main cause of defeat of the hegemons that have sought to safeguard their interests through creating divisions in the Iranian society,” he wrote.

“The foreign ministry has always been of the view that diplomacy, solely backed by national power, internal integrity and public support, could stabilize our regional and global achievements,” Zarif's Instagram post further suggested.

He said that today the genuine efforts by the soldiers on the frontline of diplomacy has resulted in the failure of the Zionists to revive their sinister conspiracy of making Iran insecure and undermining the country's productive, peace seeking and anti-extremist role it has in the region.

The Iranian foreign minister also expressed hope that everybody could help the country achieve economic development and improve the livelihood of the people.

“All we Iranians, regardless of our political inclinations or religion and ethnicity, are passengers of the same ship. It will be great if all of us on the threshold of Nowruz, try to turn all the common worries into hope and an opportunity for an endogenous security and development of our dear country Iran while working toward an outward-looking approach aimed at constructive engagement with the world to let the ship of state of our dear country Iran steers towards development and sublimity in the rough seas of a post Western globe,” Zarif said.

Ten days ago, Zarif addressed the 55th Munich Security Conference in Germany and said that Washington’s demonization of Tehran has formed into an institution against international peace and security, condemning US officials for inciting hatred against his country.

“The US claims—and some blindly parrot its accusation—that it is Iran which is interfering in the region. But has it ever been asked whose region? Just glimpse at a map. The US military has traveled 10,000 kilometers to dot all our borders with bases. Meanwhile, it has milked the region of its resources through vast arms sales. According to the most conservative estimate, the GCC’s military spending alone will reach a record high of $100 billion this year—almost seven times that of Iran.”

“So, who is really exporting insecurity to our region?” he asked the audience.
