Russian Diplomat Warns of NPT Collapse

TEHRAN (Defapress) - Aleksey Meshkov, the Russian ambassador to France, said in an interview with RIA Novosti: "Talks about the expansion of the nuclear component in Europe are leading to the collapse of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and are encouraging countries to build such weapons."

He added: "The nuclear maneuvers of France and Poland and Finland's readiness to deploy nuclear weapons contradict the founding document of Russia-NATO."

After the US threatened to withdraw from NATO and reduce military support for Europe, France intends to protect them from Russia by expanding its nuclear umbrella to Eastern Europe and the Baltic states.

Russia has condemned the actions of France, Germany, and the UK in fomenting Russophobia and has warned the European troika about the consequences of these actions.
