General Mansour Ravankar, commander of IRGC fourth naval zone, said the aim of the parade was to show off the level of readiness among Iranian naval units in defending the country’s marine borders in the Persian Gulf.
According to him, over 110 rocket-launching speedboats, long-range, mid-range and short-range missile launchers, mining vessels, reconnaissance, defensive, support, and supply vessels took part in the parade to show off the navy’s defense capabilities.
October 8 marks the martyrdom anniversary of IRGC navy commander Nader Mahdavi and his soldiers who were attacked by an American helicopter during a patrol on Persian Gulf in 1987. After an hours-long battle against US naval forces and cruisers, Mahdavi was arrested by American forces, tortured and then killed. His body was sent to Iran from Oman six days after his death.
