TEHRAN (Defapress) - The family of  Sayfollah Musallet, a 20-year-old American citizen murdered by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, issued a statement calling on the U.S. government to punish those responsible for their son’s killing.

The statement read: “Israeli settlers surrounded Sayfollah Musallet for 3 hours and attacked medical personnel trying to help him. Sayfollah was a kind, hardworking, and deeply respectful young man who was striving to achieve his dreams. This is a nightmare no family should endure. We urge the U.S. State Department to immediately launch an investigation and punish the Israeli settlers who killed Sayfollah. We demand justice.”

Washington has previously resisted calls to pursue accountability for the killings of American citizens by Israel, insisting that Israel independently has the right to investigate violations. However, in practice, Israeli investigations never lead to criminal charges against settlers or soldiers of the regime.

On Friday, the U.S. State Department stated: “No priority is higher than the safety and security of American citizens abroad. We are aware of reports regarding the death of an American citizen in the West Bank. When a U.S. citizen dies overseas, we stand ready to provide consular services.”

Since 2022, settlers have killed at least 9 American citizens, including Shireen Abu Akleh, the veteran Al Jazeera journalist, yet none of these crimes have resulted in criminal cases.

Sayfollah Musallet was born and raised in Florida. He had traveled to the West Bank for a summer visit with his family when he was killed while protesting the settlers' seizure of Palestinian land.

On Saturday, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) urged its supporters to contact state lawmakers and demand they condemn Musallet’s killing.
