'Syria is a sovereign state and it has the right to decide on the presence of foreign military advisors,' Director of the Information and Press Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Vladimirovna Zakharova said to the Islamic Republic News Agency during a weekly press briefing on Thursday.
She made the remarks, answering a question, regarding Israel calls for expelling Iranian military advisors from the country.
'The issue should be decided according to Iranian and Syria mutual agreements,' Zakharova added.
The Russian official expressed support for the Astana peace process for resolution of Syria crisis.
She pointed to the recent meeting of the foreign ministers of guarantor countries including Iran, Turkey and Russia in Geneva and said that the guarantor countries of the Astana peace process will meet in Moscow in the near future.
