TEHRAN (Defapress) - Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th BRICS Summit, held a meeting and talks with Mauro Vieira, Brazil's Foreign Minister.
The Iranian Foreign Minister thanked Brazil for hosting the 17th BRICS Summit and emphasized the important role of BRICS in strengthening multilateralism and the rule of law at the international level. He stressed the significance of continued Iran-Brazil cooperation both bilaterally and within the framework of international organizations.
Referring to the military aggression by the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran, the Foreign Minister thanked Brazil for its firm and principled position in condemning these aggressive actions. He emphasized that the illegal attacks by the U.S. and the Zionist regime not only constituted a blatant violation of the UN Charter but also represented an unprecedented assault on the non-proliferation regime and the foundations of diplomacy, with serious consequences for regional peace and security.
Araghchi stated that the main reason for the continuation and escalation of warmongering by the Zionist regime is its impunity and the all-encompassing support it receives from the U.S. and some European countries. He underscored the legal and moral responsibility of all governments to stop the Zionist regime's crimes against Palestinians and its aggressions against the people of the region.
The Brazilian Foreign Minister recalled his country's firm stance in condemning military aggression against Iran's territorial integrity and national sovereignty, particularly targeting Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities. He emphasized the UN Security Council's responsibility to uphold international peace and security.
The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Brazil also reviewed bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the growing ties between the two countries in the economic and trade fields. They agreed to hold a joint economic commission soon.
