TEHRAN (Defapress) - On 23 June 2025, the Zionist regime launched an attack on Tehran's Evin Prison, causing significant damage to the facility's infrastructure. During this aggression, military barracks near the prison were targeted, resulting in several martyrs and damage to military equipment. The prison's hospital, a critical medical facility serving inmates and patients in need, was also impacted, with potentially severe consequences for prisoners' health.

The cowardly attack additionally damaged the visitation hall, a vital space for maintaining family connections and prisoner morale. Tragically, multiple visitors were martyred in the assault.

According to Asghar Jahangir, spokesperson for Iran's Judiciary, this brutal attack has so far claimed 79 martyrs among prisoners' families, administrative staff, social workers, soldiers, lawyers, judges, and inmates, with numerous others wounded. The incident carries profound social and political ramifications, likely escalating regional tensions and triggering international condemnation of the Zionist usurper regime.

The barbaric attack's shockwaves damaged surrounding residential buildings and vehicles in the area. Iran's Judiciary has invited members of parliament, along with domestic and international journalists, to inspect the damaged sections of Evin Prison, exposing the full dimensions of this criminal aggression.

He continued: "While the United Nations and human rights organizations like Amnesty International have condemned this savage act as 'unlawful and criminal,' the UN Security Council has, due to Western veto, failed to issue any condemning resolution. This silence legitimizes the Zionist occupation regime's systematic human rights violations."

Sargazi emphasized that the Judicial Commission will pursue legal action against the perpetrators through international courts: "We demand a UN-supervised committee, under Article 8 of the Rome Statute, to investigate this crime and ensure accountability."

"The attack on Evin Prison wasn't merely physical bombardment," Sargazi concluded, "but an assault on human dignity and international legal norms. History will record this crime alongside the Sabra and Shatila massacres, the Deir Yassin genocide, and the Gaza atrocities. Condemning this act, the West's claim of defending 'global civilization.' Silence in such crimes makes one complicit with history's butchers."

The Zionist regime's attack on Evin Prison constitutes a disturbing development requiring immediate response from the international community and human rights organizations. Protecting prisoners' humanitarian conditions and human rights must be prioritized to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
