TEHRAN (defapress) - The history of the USA is the graveyard of the several presidents and candidates who have been assassinated in different locations.

Which US presidents, or candidates have been assassinated or faced attempts?

In this history mark, four US presidents and one candidate have been assassinated since the founding of the US.

- Abraham Lincoln (1865): 16th President of the United States, killed by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865, while attending a play at Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C.

- James Garfield (1881): 20th President of the United States, shot by Charles J. Guiteau on July 2, 1881, while waiting for a train at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington D.C.

- William McKinley (1901): 25th President of the United States, shot by Leon Frank Czolgosz on September 6, 1901, while attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York.

- John F. Kennedy (1963): 35th President of the United States, shot by Lee Harvey Oswald on November 22, 1963, while riding in an open-top car in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas.

- Robert F. Kennedy (1968): Presidential candidate and U.S. Senator from New York, shot by Sirhan Sirhan on June 5, 1968, at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California.

Also, seven others have faced assassination attempts:

- Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933): On February 15, 1933, Giuseppe Zangara, an Italian immigrant, attempted to assassinate President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt in Miami, Florida. Roosevelt was campaigning for office at the time. Zangara fired several shots but missed Roosevelt and killed Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak instead. Roosevelt was not injured.

- Harry S Truman (1950): On November 1, 1950, two Puerto Rican nationalists, Oscar Collazo, and Griselio Torresola, attempted to assassinate President Harry S. Truman at Blair House, the president's temporary residence in Washington D.C. The pair attempted to shoot their way past Secret Service agents and reach Truman but were thwarted and arrested.

- Gerald Ford (1975): On September 5, 1975, Sara Jane Moore fired a shot at President Gerald Ford as he walked out of a San Francisco restaurant. The bullet missed Ford's head by just a few inches. Moore was later convicted of attempted assassination.

- Ronald Reagan (1981): On March 30, 1981, John Hinckley Jr. shot President Ronald Reagan outside the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. Reagan suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and underwent emergency surgery. Hinckley was later found to be motivated by an obsession with actress Jodie Foster and was found not guilty because of insanity.

- George W. Bush (2005): On May 10, 2005, Vladimir Arutyunian threw a grenade at President George W. Bush during a speech at Tbilisi's Liberty Square in Georgia. The grenade did not explode due to a faulty mechanism, and Bush was not injured.

- Theodore Roosevelt (1912): On October 14, 1912, John Schrank shot former President Theodore Roosevelt while he was campaigning for the presidency as the candidate of the Progressive Party in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Roosevelt was shot in the chest but continued giving his speech for nearly an hour before seeking medical attention.

- Candidate George Wallace (1972): On May 15, 1972, Arthur Bremer shot and seriously injured presidential candidate George Wallace in Laurel, Maryland. Wallace was campaigning for the Democratic nomination at the time.

So according to the provided list, it was not the first time that American presidents were assassinated, and Trump is no exception.
