TEHRAN (defapress) - Occupied Haifa's Mayor, Yona Yahav touched on the city's preparations and steps undertaken for a potential war on the northern front with Hezbollah, Israeli media reported.

We are preparing for a potential war in the North

After the Palestinian Resistance in Gaza launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, 2023, Hezbollah commenced its military operations against Israeli sites and settlements along the border with occupied Palestine. It linked the cessation of its attack to the end of the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

In a radio interview, Yahav said that Israeli authorities are currently changing the way they construct parking lots entirely and are preparing them for long-term stays in case of a war with the Lebanese Resistance group.

The Israeli official pointed out that settlers should be able to stay in such shelters and parking lots for a minimum of four consecutive days, which requires proper preparation, such as installing toilets.

Regarding the war scenario in the north, Yahav said, "I cannot speak for the north nor do I know what is happening there. No one updates us on the situation as if we are not the largest and most important city in the north."

Israeli media recently highlighted that more than 70% of areas in the al-Jalil Panhandle were damaged by Hezbollah's strikes from Lebanon, with reports indicating that half of Kiryat Shmona's settlers refuse to return to their settlements due to Hezbollah's rocket fire.

Last week, the Israeli "Institute for National Security Studies" (INSS) suggested in a report that Hezbollah's diverse and extensive arsenal can cause "severe damage to Israel."

According to the report, Hezbollah has become the main military threat to the Israeli occupation since the Israeli 2006 war on Lebanon.
