TEHRAN (Defapress) - According to Reuters, diplomats said that the UN Security Council, at the request of 6 members of the council (France, Greece, Panama, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States), will hold a closed-door meeting tomorrow on what it calls Iran's increase in enriched uranium stockpiles.
According to diplomatic sources, the meeting will also discuss Iran's obligations to the International Atomic Energy Agency, including providing information related to the discovery of uranium particles at several locations in Iran.
The agency's claim about Iran's increase in enriched uranium stockpiles at weapons level comes at a time when Tehran has always emphasized that it does not seek to acquire nuclear weapons. However, the IAEA has repeated its previous claim, warning that “Iran has significantly accelerated the enrichment of uranium to 60 percent purity, close to weapons-grade levels”!
Western countries, repeating the IAEA’s claims, say that under a civilian nuclear program, there is no need to enrich uranium to such levels. These unsubstantiated claims come at a time when the Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.
In 2015, Iran reached an agreement with the UK, Germany, France, the US, Russia and China called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). However, in 2018, current US President Donald Trump unilaterally and illegally withdrew from the JCPOA, and in response, Iran has gradually distanced itself from its commitments under the agreement.
Britain, France and Germany, known as the “European Troika,” previously announced in a hostile letter to the UN Security Council that they were ready to reinstate all international sanctions on Tehran if necessary by activating the “trigger mechanism.” They will no longer be able to activate the trigger mechanism on October 18 of this year, when the 2015 UN resolution on the deal expires.
