"During the informal visit, a meeting was held between the command of the Caspian flotilla and the command of the detachment of combat ships of naval forces of Iran, during which the two sides discussed issues of cooperation between the navies of the two countries in the Caspian Sea," Astafyev said on Monday as quoted by Rio Novosti as saying.
On October 20, the Iranian Navy’s sixth peace and friendship flotilla made a three-day voyage to Russia’s coastal city of Makhachkala, the capital city of the Republic of Dagestan.
The naval fleet is comprised of "Damavand" destroyer and "Paykan" missile-launching vessel.
During their stay, Iranian sailors visited the Russian "Dagestan” missile ship, Astafyev further said, adding that Russian sailors also paid a visit to Damavand destroyer.
In July, a Russian naval flotilla held a joint exercise with Iran’s Navy in the Caspian Sea.
The Russian ‘Makhachkala’ flotilla, under the command of Captain Dmitriov, had berthed at Bandar Anzali for a three-day visit as part of programs intended to boost military cooperation between the two countries.
