The Iraqi Prime Minister’s office in a statement on Tuesday announced that the Council of Ministers chaired by Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi has ratified a bill to lift visa charges for Iranian if Iran also reciprocates.
The statement did not refer to the exact date and mentioned no more details of the enactment.
During his recent visit to Iraq, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a joint statement declared the final agreement to start lifting visa charges for Iraqi nationals from April 1.
Meanwhile, Iran Envoy to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi told IRNA that the necessary measures will be taken on the due date for Iraqi nationals in Iran diplomatic missions.
Over seven million pilgrims and passengers are exchanged between Iran and Iraq annually.
Rouhani’s visit to Iraq took place upon the official invitation of his counterpart President Barham Salih and also Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.
During his three-day stay in Iraq, President Rouhani also conferred with the senior Iraqi cleric, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani.
Exploring avenues for promoting bilateral relations in the political, economic and cultural fields were among the main objectives of the Iranian president’s official visit to Iraq.
