TEHRAN (Defapress) - President Pezeshkian's 3-day travel to Iraq had a media impact around the world. 

The media impact of Pezeshkian travel to Iraq

The New York Times newspaper wrote in a report that President Pezeshkian traveled to Iraq for the first time since he took office as the president of Iran in July. The choice of Iraq as the first destination of foreign travel for Pezeshkian shows that Tehran attaches strategic value to Baghdad amid regional tensions.

Euronews also announced in a report that by traveling to different regions of Iraq, Pezeshkian hopes to deepen relations between Tehran and Baghdad and develop cooperation between the parties despite the escalation of tensions in the region. It happens while Iraq is trying to balance its relations with the USA and Iran.

Arab Weekly wrote about this trip that Pezeshkian on his second day of travel to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, warmly welcomed by the Kurdish authorities. Nechervan Idris Barzani, the president of this region, personally welcomed Pezeshkian and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces paid their respects to him next to the red carpet spread for the president of Iran. During the Pezeshkian's trip to Iraq, 14 cooperation documents were signed between the parties in different fields. 

The Voice of America also emphasized Iran's President was welcomed by the country's senior officials at the head of a high-level delegation in Iraq. The ambassador of Tehran in Baghdad said that this trip was done at the invitation of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani. During this trip, two security memorandums were signed between the parties. 

Al-Monitor wrote that Nechervan Barzani warmly welcomed the visit of an Iranian president to the Kurdistan Region in his first foreign trip. The Pezeshkian's trip to Iraq coincides with the escalation of tensions in the region and the Gaza war. 

Reuters also reported that Pezeshkian were warmly welcomed by the Baghdad authorities in Iraq, while the concerns about spreading the conflict to other regions were increased. 

Aljazeera also pointed to the strategic importance of Pezeshkian's travel and added that at the same time that the Western sanctions against Tehran are intensifying, the president of Iran is seeking to expand relations with this country by visiting Baghdad. During this trip, he visited the monument of Martyr General Soleimani, the former commander of Iran's Quds Force, in Baghdad and paid his respects to him.
