We Stand by Our Commitment to the Iraqi Government to Repel Illegal US Actions

TEHRAN (Defapress) - Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi wrote on the social network "X": Regrettably, the US government has decided to target the innocent Iraqi people by depriving them of access to basic services such as electricity, especially on the eve of the hot months of next year. 

He emphasized: We stand with the Iraqi people and stand by our commitment to the Iraqi government to engage in dialogue to repel the illegal US actions.

Reuters reported on Sunday, March 10, 2024, citing a US State Department spokesman, that the administration of President Donald Trump has ended Iraq's sanctions waiver for purchasing electricity from Iran.

The US had extended Iraq's sanctions waiver for purchasing electricity from Iran since 2018 so that the country can meet its energy needs.

The last time the administration of former US President Joe Biden extended this waiver was on November 7, 2024.
