TEHRAN (Defapress) - The U.S. State Department officially declared that it has upgraded the nature of its sanctions policy against the Islamic Resistance Movement of al-Nujaba in Iraq from the designation of SDGT (Specially Designated Global Terrorist, involving financial and economic restrictions) to FTO (Foreign Terrorist Organization, carrying security and criminal consequences).

The Most Severe Sanctioning Tool Imposed Against Al-Nujaba

Under this reclassification, the U.S. government formally defines al-Nujaba as a foreign organization that represents a credible threat to U.S. national security and the security of its allies (such as Israel).

Another aspect of this new sanctions framework is the criminalization and prosecution of individuals or organizations that, in any way, provide support to al-Nujaba or certain other Iraqi Resistance groups.

This sanctioning structure is the most severe diplomatic tool available to the United States in confronting organizations it considers a “serious threat to global security.”

In effect, through this move, Washington has conveyed to al-Nujaba that from now on it will be regarded as an independent organization (and not merely a proxy) threatening the national security of the United States, and that its members, supporters, and allies will no longer enjoy immunity from punishment for cooperating with the Resistance.
