Rodrigo Paz Becomes New President of Bolivia

TEHRAN (Defapress) - According to Sputnik, Rodrigo Paz, a centrist and right-wing senator, was elected as the new president of Bolivia in the presidential election.

Paz's election came after two decades of socialist leftist rule and in the midst of a severe economic crisis that Bolivia is struggling with.

Paz, 58, won 54.5 percent of the vote in the second round of the presidential election. He managed to attract public votes by presenting an economic program based on reducing government spending, especially fuel subsidies, as well as strengthening the opening of the private sector and promising to implement the concept of "capitalism for all" based on decentralization and fiscal discipline.

On the other hand, the disagreement between the two main figures of the Bolivian Socialist Party prevented current President Luis Arce and former President Evo Morales from nominating a single candidate to run in the elections.
