The two sides held talks on 9-10 October at the EU headquarters in Brussels within the framework of EU’s cooperation with Iran’s nuclear safety center under Appendix 3 of the Iran’s nuclear deal also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
During the two-day talks, the document for EU’s second joint project with Iran was developed to enhance the technical capabilities of the Islamic Republic's nuclear safety center.
The EU delegation was headed by Oliver Luyckx, the director of the EU nuclear safety unit, and the Iranian side was led by Hojjatollah Salehi, the director of Iran’s nuclear safety center.
Back in July, Luyckx led a high-ranking EU delegation to Tehran to launch their first joint project aimed at strengthening bilateral nuclear safety cooperation. The 2.5-million-euro project was signed in April within the framework of the Iran’s nuclear deal as part of a five-million-euro package approved in 2016 with regard to Iran-EU cooperation on nuclear safety.
