Missile strike on Syrian air base in line with Israeli regime’s plots

IRNA - In April 2017, the US fired 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Al Shayrat airfield in Syria’s Homs Province after it claimed that Syrian jets had carried out a chemical attack in the town of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib Province.

Missile strike on Syrian air base in line with Israeli regime’s plotsTehran(Defapress) A year after that missile strike, the Syrian T4 military air base in Homs Province was attacked early Monday. This happened two days after an alleged chemical attack in the militant-held town of Douma in Eastern Ghouta.

Donald Trump’s anti-Damascus rhetoric following the alleged chemical attack in Douma and the memory of Washington’s missile attack on Al Shayrat airfield raised speculations that the White House was behind the strike on the T4 military air base.

At first, Syrian media reported that the US carried out the attack but the Pentagon quickly denied such reports.

Ultimately, it was revealed that Israeli warplanes conducted the strike on the T4 air base and the US had no role in it.

Now the question is why Tel Aviv conducted the raid.

As some of Israeli officials have confirmed, the regime’s attack might have been conducted to stop alleged transfer of weapons to Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

Nonetheless, Trump’s anti-Damascus tweet after the alleged chemical strike in Eastern Ghouta signaled that Israel’s purposes of attacking the Syrian air base are beyond Hezbollah’s arms issue.

This is reflected in remarks by Amiram Levin, a retired Israeli general, who said that Tel Aviv must cooperate with Washington to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Hence, it seems that Israel seeks to implement strategic plans in Syria.

This stems from Trump’s remarks who announced that US troops would leave Syria. The US president, however, agreed to keep US troops in Syria for an undetermined period of time but called for ending America’s involvement in the conflict as soon as possible.

Israel not only wants Trump to change his mind to maintain US troops in Syria, but it also explores ways to push the White House to expand US military presence in the war-hit nation.

In fact, Israel seized the opportunity and developed another plot by attacking the Syrian air base amid the fuss over the chemical attack in Douma.

Tel Aviv’s strike showed that international organizations must take countermeasures against Israel to prevent further deterioration of the situation in Syria.
