From Jail, Pakistan's Ex-PM Sharif Appeals His SentenceTEHRAN (Defapress) -Sharif was sentenced in absentia on July 6 over his family's purchases of luxury apartments in London. If the judge grants the appeal, Sharif could be released on bail, pending his retrial.

Maryam Aurangzeb, a spokeswoman for the ruling Pakistan Muslim League party, says the appeal was filed Monday with the Islamabad High Court.

She says Sharif seeks to overturn the verdict against him and his family.

His daughter and son-in-law were also sentenced in the same trial.

It's one of several court cases underway against Sharif, who was ousted from office by the Supreme Court last July for corruption.
