TEHRAN (Defapress) - Nearly a month has passed since the Zionist regime’s military aggression against Iran. Yet, the details of last month’s large-scale drone attacks on military bases in Iraq remain unclear and ambiguous. According to "conclusive findings" from an investigation published last Friday, the drones used in the attacks on Iraqi military bases during the recent war between the Israeli regime and Iran were manufactured outside Iraq but launched from within the country.

The Unsolved Mystery of Drone Attacks in Iraq

The report by the investigative committee, formed at the direction of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, did not identify who was behind last month’s attacks, which targeted radar and air defense systems. These strikes damaged several military bases, including some housing U.S. forces, and destroyed radar systems at Camp Taji north of Baghdad and a base in Dhi Qar province.

Sabah al-Numan, the Iraqi military spokesman, commented on the investigation’s latest findings regarding the drone attacks, stating that the drones "were manufactured outside Iraq but launched from locations inside the country." All drones used in the attacks were of the same type, indicating a single actor was behind the entire operation.

A highly sensitive and critical issue is the launch sites of these drones, vaguely referred to as "locations inside Iraq." This suggests that groups or individuals within Iraq, whether acting independently or with foreign support, were able to plan and execute a complex operation.

Moreover, these attacks occurred against the backdrop of recent regional developments, particularly tensions between Iran and the Zionist regime. The recent conflict, which led to direct and indirect exchanges of attacks, has once again positioned Iraq as a key battleground in these confrontations. Due to its geopolitical significance, Iraq has long been vulnerable to becoming a stage for regional and international power struggles.

Given the years-long presence of U.S. forces in Iraq, this remains a provocative factor for certain domestic groups and their regional backers. Drone attacks on bases hosting U.S. troops could be a direct message to Washington, but who sent it? Were these attacks carried out by local militias with foreign support, or are other actors pulling the strings behind the scenes? The lack of clear answers to these questions has further inflamed Iraq’s political tensions.

Additionally, recent attacks on oil fields in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, conducted using similar drones, add another layer of complexity. These strikes have also heightened tensions between the central government and Kurdish authorities.

The drone attacks on this region could be an attempt to send a message to local officials. The oil industry is the backbone of Iraq’s economy, and any disruption could have far-reaching consequences for the country’s economic and political stability. The current situation in Iraq can be likened to a powder keg, where any spark could ignite an explosion.
