TEHRAN (Defapress) - Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, in an interview with Defapress correspondent, addressed recent European threats to activate the snapback mechanism and reinstate UN sanctions against Iran. He stated: "The snapback mechanism means the return of the six resolutions that were suspended under the JCPOA, and their non-implementation had been confirmed by the UN Security Council. The term 'snapback' refers to the reinstatement of those same six previous sanction resolutions."
He added: "We accepted restrictions on peaceful nuclear activities solely to prevent international sanctions. Now, if European countries intend to make a grave mistake and move toward reimposing UN sanctions, there will be no reason for Iran to continue adhering to these restrictions. Therefore, the Islamic Republic of Iran will undoubtedly respond proportionately and appropriately to such an action."
Boroujerdi further emphasized: "European countries must understand that the consequences of violating international agreements, particularly in sensitive areas such as Iran’s nuclear program, will not only affect Tehran but also undermine international legal order. If the JCPOA, as a multilateral document, collapses entirely, no trust will remain in international agreements."
The parliamentarian also stressed: "We have demonstrated that we are willing to engage in negotiations, dialogue, and mutual understanding. However, if the path of pressure and coercion is pursued again, our response will be firm, deterrent, and in line with national interests, because the Islamic Republic of Iran will never allow the rights of the Iranian people to be violated again through sanction resolutions under any circumstances."
