Hezbollah Fighters Heroic Defense of the Ali Al-Taher Hills
TEHRAN (Defapress) – Mohammad Zarchini - Ali Al-Taher Hill is one of the most important and strategic heights in southern Lebanon, which in recent months has become the main focal point of clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah; this hill is located north of the Litani River, east of the city of Nabatieh, and near the town of Kfar Tebnit, standing at an elevation of approximately 600 meters above sea level. The hill's absolute line of sight and fire control over the strategic city of Nabatieh, which serves as Hezbollah's primary social, logistical, and defensive base, as well as its surrounding villages such as Kfar Tebnit, bestows vital importance upon this location, to the extent that its potential fall would expose the resistance's defensive lines to the risk of being outflanked. For this reason, maintaining these heights is considered a territorial red line for Hezbollah, serving as a protective umbrella for the entire region.
The strategic importance of this hill and Israel's insistence on attacking and taking control of it stem from several key military and geographical factors, including complete geographical control and observation, control of road and logistical networks, striking Hezbollah's main defensive line and infrastructure, and breaking the lines of Resistance in southern Lebanon.
Complete Geographical Control and Observation
Due to its suitable elevation, this hill acts like a "natural balcony," offering a direct view over the city of Nabatieh and a vast portion of its governorate. In addition to Nabatieh, these heights hold full observation over the transport axes of the Iqlim al-Tuffah region, the Marjayoun and Hasbaya districts, and even parts of northern occupied Palestine (the Galilee region); in fact, whichever force controls this hill effectively commands observation and fire control over a large portion of southern Lebanon.
Control of the Road Network and Logistical Lines
Ali Al-Taher Hill dominates the network of main and secondary roads connecting the cities and villages of southern Lebanon. Controlling this hill translates into the ability to sever or control supply lines and troop movements between Nabatieh, Marjayoun, Maroun al-Ras, Bint Jbeil, and other strategic areas of southern Lebanon.
The Main Defensive Line and Hezbollah's Infrastructure
From a military standpoint, Ali Al-Taher Hill constitutes Hezbollah's primary and first line of defense protecting the Nabatieh sector and areas north of the Litani River. Field reports indicate that this area contains a complex network of deep tunnels, fortified bunkers, and key command and missile-launch infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah.
Why Is Israel Seeking to Attack and Capture This Hill?
Severing Command and Fire Nodes: By targeting and attempting to capture this hill, Israel seeks to cut off one of Hezbollah's most crucial infrastructure nodes for directing operations and launching rockets toward northern Israel.
Establishing Security Depth and Superior Positioning: Capturing the heights of Ali Al-Taher enables the Israeli military to gain a dominant and superior position west of Nabatieh, which could be utilized to create a security buffer zone or maintain continuous surveillance over Resistance movements.
Breaking the Resistance's Defensive Lines: Since this hill serves as a fortified stronghold for Hezbollah, penetrating it carries significant psychological and tactical impact, representing the breach of one of the toughest defensive lines in southern Lebanon.
For these reasons, this area has turned into one of the bloodiest and most sensitive axes in recent battles, to the point where elite special units of the Israeli army (such as the Maglan Unit) have been deployed to breach this hill, only to encounter severe ambushes and fierce resistance from Hezbollah forces. The Israeli military has repeatedly subjected this hill to heavy artillery, airstrikes, and even the use of suicide drones to pave the way for a ground advance and control over this strategic artery.
Treachery of the Lebanese Government
It appears that the betrayals of the Lebanese government have paved the way for a broader entry of Israeli forces into the south, with the Lebanese army aiding the Zionist enemy in capturing southern Lebanon by creating space for the Zionists. Hezbollah stood up against all Western powers, led by the United States and the Zionist regime, engaging in an Ashura-like struggle in an effort to defend Lebanese territory. Sheikh Naim Qassem, Secretary-General of Hezbollah in Lebanon, states in this regard: In this decisive battle, caught between the crossroads of "surrender and collapse" or "steadfastness and defeating the enemy's plot," the Resistance chose the path of Karbala-like battle and resistance to prevent the realization of the Zionist regime's goals of genocide and destroying the Resistance movement.
He adds: The Lebanese government's action in accepting and signing the so-called "framework agreement" under American dictation and pressure is not a balanced agreement, but sheer capitulation to Israeli dictations and a retreat from national sovereignty.
Despite Hezbollah's heroic defense of Lebanon's territorial integrity, the country's treacherous government attempts to accommodate the Zionist regime through a tactic of "compromise and land concessions", a path that is already clear will lead to nothing but failure.
