TEHRAN (Defapress) - According to Al-Akhbar, the Iraqi government has advised the self-proclaimed Syrian leader, al-Jolani, in recent days to avoid entering the Lebanon case; an advice that has been made at the same time as the US and Saudi pressure has increased to draw Damascus into confrontation with Hezbollah.

Baghdad Warns Jolani About the Consequences of Entering the Lebanon Case

According to this report, Baghdad has warned that any role played by Damascus in the Lebanese scene could have direct consequences for Syria, and in the event of a threat against Lebanese Shiites or Hezbollah from Syrian soil, Iraqi resistance groups will react.

Iraq has also emphasized that any step taken by Syria towards Lebanon could be accompanied by a reciprocal step from Baghdad.

Informed sources say that al_jolani confirmed in response that the US asked him to take a position on the Lebanese case against Hezbollah, but he rejected this request, stating that Damascus’ priority is to maintain internal stability and avoid opening new fronts.

This message was sent at a time when US pressure for Syria to intervene in the Lebanese case has increased. Informed sources report that Donald Trump’s recent statements about the possibility of asking Damascus for help against Hezbollah are more political pressure and not operational.

These sources emphasize that Damascus has previously informed Hezbollah through Turkish channels and some regional parties that it does not intend to enter the Lebanese case.

According to these sources, Iraq’s message can be analyzed in the regional atmosphere after the widespread funeral of the martyred Iranian leader in Iraq; an atmosphere that indicates a high level of solidarity among the region’s Shiite communities and warns that Syria’s entry into confrontation with Hezbollah could expand the scope of tension to new areas.
