Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, headed a high-ranking political delegation to Baghdad on Saturday to take part in a fresh round of Iran-Iraq joint commission’s meetings.
In a meeting with Iraqi FM on Saturday evening, the Iranian diplomat congratulated Ibrahim al-Jaafari on Iraq’s recent victories in the fight against terrorism and the liberation of Mosul, highlighting Iran’s continued support for the efforts of Iraqi nation and government toward the establishment of peace and security all across the country.
Al-Jaafari, for his part, discussed Iraq’s recent military achievements in combating ISIL, and called for further expansion of relations and cooperation between the two countries.
The prime minister of Iraq on July 9 announced final "victory” over ISIL in Mosul after eight months of combat against the Takfiri terrorist group. The liberation of Mosul is thought to mark the effective end of ISIL in the Arab country.
Meanwhile, Iraq Defense Minister Irfan al-Hayali is in Tehran at the head of a defense delegation to hold talks with Iranian officials and sign an MoU on defense cooperation.
