Nakhchivan Eyes Energy, Agriculture Cooperation with Iran

TEHRAN (defapress)- Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Vasif Talibov in a meeting with Iranian Economy Minister Massoud Karbasian in Tehran voiced his country's interest in electricity transfer, gas import and agricultural cooperation with Iran.

Nakhchivan Eyes Energy, Agriculture Cooperation with IranDuring the meeting held in the Iranian capital today, Talibov elaborated on his country’s plans for energy cooperation with Iran, and said, "We have an annual production of 20 megawatts of solar power in Nakhchivan; this year, we had 80 million kilowatts of energy exchange, and we are ready to increase the volume."

He voiced Nakhchivan’s keen interest in holding talks with Iran on exporting the surplus of their generated hydroelectricity to the Islamic Republic.

Karbasian, for his part, underlined Tehran's strong resolve to expand relations with Nakhchivan.

He pointed to ten state visits by the two sides' presidents during Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s terms in office, and stressed that important tasks were given to the two countries’ joint commissions during President Ilham Aliyev’s last visit to Tehran.

Karbasian further called for closer cooperation in trade, tourism, banking transactions, transit, industry, and railways.

In relevant remarks in August 2016, Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi and President Aliyev in a meeting in Baku underlined the need for the further expansion of mutual cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting in the Azeri capital, Vaezi and President Aliyev explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating of bilateral relations in different areas.

Vaezi appreciated President Aliyev's role in enhancement of the two countries' bilateral ties, and said that the two countries' presidents are determined to boost the level of their cooperation in different fields.

The Azeri president, for his part, hailed Vaezi's role in expanding ties between the two countries.

The two sides also discussed political and economic ties between the two countries and cooperation in the Caspian Sea, and exchanged views about the prospects of relations in energy, transport, investment, finance, banking, agricultural, tourism and healthcare.
