Iranian FM Holds Quadrilateral Meeting with Georgian, Turkish, Azeri Counterparts

TEHRAN (defapress)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held a quadripartite meeting with his counterparts from Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan in Baku on Thursday.

Iranian FM Holds Quadrilateral Meeting with Georgian, Turkish, Azeri CounterpartsThe meeting was participated by Zarif, Mikheil Janelidze, Mevlut Cavusoglu and Elmar Mammadyarov, respectively the foreign ministers of Iran, Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

The Baku quadrilateral meeting focused on promotion of cooperation among the four countries to strengthen regional peace and security and develop economic, energy, transportation, cultural and tourism ties.

Upon arrival in Baku on Thursday morning, Zarif told reporters that the meeting is the first ever to be held between the four countries.

Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan had already met several times and held such meetings but this is the first time that Georgia joins the three other countries, Zarif said.

Earlier, Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov had stated that the Baku meeting with participation of foreign ministers of four countries was aimed at promoting regional cooperation.

Zarif is planned to leave Baku for Astana, Kazakhstan on March 16 to participate in a meeting to be attended by the Iranian, Turkish and Russian foreign ministers as the three peace guarantors in Syria.
