IAEA confirms peaceful nature of Iran nuclear program

TEHRAN (Defapress) 'In line with standards of IAEA practice, the IAEA evaluates all safeguards-relevant information available to it. However, it is not the practice of the IAEA to publicly discuss issues related to any such information,' a statement released on the UN watchdog's website noted.

The IAEA report said that it has 'no credible' evidence Iran was working on developing a nuclear 'explosive device' after 2009 and that the UN's nuclear watchdog considered the issue 'closed' after it was presented in a report in December 2015.

The 2015 report 'stated that the agency had no credible indications of activities in Iran relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device after 2009. Based on the director-general's report, the board of governors declared that its consideration of this issue was closed,' IAEA statement added.

The IAEA statement comes after Zionist regime's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed Israel has obtained 'Iran’s secret files' which reveal it is still pursuing nuclear weapons program secretly even after the JCPOA came into effect.

In reaction, Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on Tuesday that Zionist regime's prime minister is trying to deviate public opinion about this regime's crimes against Palestinians.

He referred to closure of so-called possible military dimensions (PMD) of Iran's civil nuclear program and noted that the world public opinion has accepted that the accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran are 'baseless'.

Also, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif blasted Netanyahu for his baseless allegations against Iran.

“The boy who can't stop crying wolf is at it again. Undeterred by cartoon fiasco at UNGA. You can only fool some of the people so many times,” Zarif said in a Twitter message released on Tuesday.

UN nuclear watchdog IAEA has on several occasions verified peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program under the JCPOA, to which Iran has remained committed since it went into force.

The JCPOA stands for Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the official name of the agreement reached between Iran and six world major powers in 2015 to give Tehran sanctions relief in return for scaling back its nuclear program.
